Located in Matsumoto City, Nagano Prefecture, this historic castle boasts the oldest remaining five-story, six-story castle tower in Japan. Its black lacquered tower blends beautifully with the scenery throughout the seasons. Built between the Azuchi-Momoyama period and the early Edo period, it is designated a National Treasure. Matsumoto Castle Park, which surrounds the castle, is visited by many tourists during cherry blossom season and special events.
*Pets are not permitted within the paid area (Honmaru Garden and Castle Tower), but dogs can be walked on leashes in Matsumoto Castle Park around the inner moat.
